Going global by doing it locally. Will it still work?

I was sitting on my work desk while working simultaneously on some projects for school and a bit of social media interaction. I guess once in a while interacting with that media, such as twitter, facebook, youtube, tumblr, etc., can give me an idea of something about something. It's like my google-shortcut of finding tweets, comments, videos, or even posts from those with creative or even unique people out there.
Social Media. Yeah. I wonder what will happen to my brother, family, and most of my friends, if facebook does not exist. Two or three years back, they knew only cellphones. Texting was one of the highlight at the moment. Laptop was still considered as an expensive item. They even did not know what facebook, email, google, or a website is.
But that role of facebook made them computer-literate. Thank God.
The big question mark here is that, then, why the internet flow is only limited to facebook then? Do they ever used a google to search for an article rather than a short cut to find an answer for assignments or tests? Or do they even look up for the real pictures of wonders of the world instead of those photoshopped-pictures?
And from the business perspective, people still think that the Internet is only for interacting with others, or find news of up-to-date stories. But not for transaction or anything related to security information. What they don't know is once you put your personal information, in any kind of form, your data is for public use, not personal use anymore.
Go visit banks at states and observe the crowds and compare to the crowds at local banks. You will see a total different view. So, what is the main reason why we feel insecure about it? My best guess is education. Lack of education from those interest-party and the interest customers to learn about it.
But hopefully social media will change all of that. And it might not target the whole population, but at least, the younger market will be educated well to speak-up their thoughts and to create more ideas and realization for the good of the nation.
It's the time to say: I can do it, instead of: I don't know.
