It's been a while since my last post on this blog. It was last March 2009. I was so amazed by Gisele that I thought by putting her "small" portfolios would create a memorable time of how beautiful this supermodel is.
Well, enough of her. It's time to focus on how my blog should be in the future. I do have some plans tho. By providing insights of how I teach my class OR opinions from students and colleagues about an event.
Like now.
RAW MATERIALS.
My materials is not the things used for construction but I want to explore the world of fashion.
Two weeks ago, I accompanied my 36-student at a trip to one of the biggest wholesale store in Jakarta-Pasar Pagi Mangga Dua. After being amazed by how the traffic could change someone's condition, I found that the trip as a successful one. I never knew that a one-floor-big at the location can create a different perspective of how to make a design. From a very expensive-but negotiable price, to a low-affordable-but-take-it-as-what-it-says price, the collection of materials are abundant. From piping, button, and so forth, customers can go and see the things they want to use to enrich their design.
Materials are essential in making a design. Somehow, a designer think that with material, it can mark-up the retail price. Just take the swarovsky beads. Compare to the regular beads, it takes 10 times for a gross of it. However, a seller can also get a high profit by using a low-but-high quality of beads. So, it's all back to the seller/producer/designer wants and needs.
Anyway, My desk has a bunch of assignments and samples of these materials. And hopefully, I guess, students can get benefit from the visit.
